Course contents

The course covers the last 15 credits of KRLE1 in the teacher education aimed at level 5-10. It provides further introduction to the three main areas of the KRLE subject, based on the knowledge acquired in REL129. The didactics will in particular emphasize basic skills in the subject, assessment, teaching aids and religion in the media. Use of R&D will be essential in the work with all themes.

The subject in the practice period

During the practice period the focus will in particular be on the multireligious classroom and teaching aids in the subject, and this will be further elaborated in the teaching at campus.

Knowledge

The student has knowledge about

  • European religious history with emphasis on the history of Christianity

  • Christianity¿s diversity globally and locally, and a few selected religious communities in Norway

  • Sami religion and the conversion to Christianity in Norway

  • Sikhism, Bahai, Jehovah¿s Witnesses, Latter-day Saints

  • Pluralization, secularization and criticism of religions and world views

  • Western philosophical history, current philosophical and ethical problems and philosophizing with children as methodology

  • Assessment

  • Various teaching aids

Skills

The student

  • Is able to integrate basic skills in the subject

  • Is able to assess teaching aids in KRLE

  • Has the ability to understand children¿s thoughts and ideas about religious, ethical and philosophical questions, and lead conversations about these themes with children with various backgrounds

  • Is able to reflect critically on the content and aims of KRLE as a school subject, and on the relation between subject, teaching and personal attitudes

  • Is able to use the internet and digital tools in a critical and pedagogical way in their teaching

  • Is able to handle publicity about religion, life views and ethical questions in the media

  • Is able to use R&D actively when preparing teaching

The student

  • Is able to use essential teaching methods and basic skills in the subject

Examination requirements

Students in the teacher education must have completed and passed:

  • The practice period

  • 70% mandatory attendance requirements

  • Two mandatory assignments described in the semester plan.

Single course students must have completed and passed:

  • A didactical assignment with a workload corresponding to the practice period

  • 70% mandatory attendance requirements

  • Two mandatory assignments described in the semester plan.

Teaching methods

The teaching is partly plenary lectures, seminars and group work. The work is related to the practice, excursions and project work. The course includes 15 days of practice.

The workload is estimated to about 400 hours.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.
