Course contents

The course gives a broad overview of, and an insight into, the fields of mental health and drug addiction, and challenges of ethical -, professional - and social character are outlined.

Essential concepts and participants in the field will be introduced, and various definitions of mental health, drug addiction and community mental health work will be described and analysed. Experiences from both users and professionals will be presented and discussed in the light of health policy guidelines within the fields of mental health and drug addiction.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the student will:

  • Have knowledge of health political guidelines and ambitions within the fields of mental health and drug addiction

  • Have thorough knowledge of central concepts and sources of knowledge within the field

  • Have knowledge of different views of mental health - and drug addiction issues

  • Have knowledge of different experiences and perspectives related to mental health work

  • Be able to identify and critically analyse problems related to own experience within the field

Examination requirements

Attendance requirements must be met in the compulsory parts of the course.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

A graded four-week individual written home-examination.
