Course contents

Efforts are made to present psychological knowledge that is useful and relevant for social work. Teaching will provide students with an understanding of psychology as a subject and of the impact of psychology on social workers' professional understanding and work.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, the student should have an understanding of basic concepts and ways of thinking within the field of psychology, including

  • Overview and knowledge of some basic disciplines of psychology; social psychology, developmental psychology, health psychology, psychology of learning and thinking

  • Overview of neuropsychology as a basis for behavior and understanding of mental illness

  • Overview and knowledge of psychological risk factors, and various mental disorders

  • Specific knowledge about stress and stress management

  • Specific knowledge of conflict and conflict management

Examination requirements

Participation in mandatory seminars and submitted and approved accompanying reflection paper.

Teaching methods

Lectures, group work as well as mandatory attendance at two specifically defined seminars.Estimated work load is 270 hours.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.
