Prerequisites

Previous practice periods must be completed and assessed as a pass.

Course contents

Theoretical and didactic knowledge in the selected subjects. Basic skills and adapted teaching, mapping, work methods and forms of assessment.

Knowledge

The student

  • Has knowledge about IOP as a tool and knows how teachers use it when facilitating for learning

  • Has knowledge about how the practical training supervisor uses his/her competence and knowledge about the pupils’ abilities and development when facilitating for adapted education

  • Is familiar with the practice school’s use of mapping tools and -methods when working with adapted education

  • Is familiar with a variety of sources available to the school and the teacher in R&D work at school or in his/her own practice

  • Has thorough theoretical and didactic knowledge in the selected subjects

Skills

The student

  • Is able to plan and conduct a learning process in the selected subjects individually by use of varied work methods that facilitate adapted education and development of basic skills

  • Is able to reflect on and evaluate the choice and use of various mapping-methods (academic and/or social), and on basis of the result, follow-up one or more pupils

  • Is aware that all pupils are entitled to adapted education and uses this knowledge actively in his/her profession

General competence

The student

  • Communicates with different actors at school in an appropriate way that enhances learning and good relations independently of the situation

  • Has a critical view of his/her own professional practice by giving and receiving supervision and advice from fellow-students, practice training supervisor and rector.

  • Works independently with planning, implementing and assessing teaching.

The subject in the practice placement

Each semester the student selects one or more specialization subjects. Special learning outcomes related to the practice placement emphasize the characteristics of selected subject(s) (work methods etc.) in the practice period.

Teaching methods

During the practice placement the student is part of a team of fellow-students professionally mentored by a practice supervisor. Practice placement in the 1st year focus on observation as method for reflection and learning. The student shall together with his/her fellow-students work at preparation of teaching and training skills in various teaching situations. This implies work methods like individual preparation, observation, participation in tutorials, planning, implementing and evaluating/assessing teaching in a practice group. The student shall also participate in the school's other activities.

The practice period is 15 days.

Evaluation

Course evaluation is carried out as a midterm evaluation in accordance with standard procedure in the quality assurance system, chapter 2.1.1., unless other information is given in the beginning of the semester.

Assessment methods and criteria

After the practice period the student gets an individual, written pass/fail assessment. The student must meet the 100 % attendance requirement in the practice placement in order to get a pass. The assessment of the student is based on the learning outcome description. The student must present the assessment report to the practice supervisor before the next practice period.
