Course contents
The course is one part of the one-year undergraduate teacher training programme which consists of pedagogy, didactics in one or two subjects and practice.
The course is subdivided into three main areas:

The position of education in society and school

Pupil knowledge and the role of the teacher

Teaching and learning
The position of education in society deals with the mandate and ethic of education and the course of training. The module treats the role of education in a historic, social and cultural perspective. The module aims to ensure that the students will be able to further develop schools as institutions for learning and formation in a democratic society. Analysis and reflection on pedagogical and ethical issues will be central.
Pupil knowledge and the role of the teacher deals with society and social issues in relation to equal opportunities and the multicultural society, and will through this create an understanding of a school for all pupils, independent of their abilities, language, and social and cultural background. During the course, it is essential that the students further improve their skills, knowledge and general competence in class management, learning management, communication and in building good learning environments.
Teaching and learning deals with theoretical and practical perspectives on learning and the use of learning strategies. The course also treats adjustment through implementation of learning strategies and theories about teaching, learning, motivation and mastering.

Upon completion of the course the student shall have acquired

The ability to plan and analyze teaching that promotes good learning environments by using the planning and observation tool Tretrinnsmodellen (The Three Step Model)

The ability to keep themselves informed about specialist literature, to analyze and be critical of sources and existing theories in pedagogy and didactics

The ability to work systematically with basic skills by using research-based and empirical knowledge

The ability to conduct, on various teaching arenas, teaching that promotes good learning processes both academically and socially

The ability to have a critical approach to digital tools and use this when teaching

Teaching methods
Lectures, seminars, team-work, individual work, use of digital tools and practical testing. As the course is a part of the advanced professional education it requires the students¿actual participation in practical assignments that are part of the teaching. Mandatory attendance will then be required.
Students will have six weeks of practice.
Estimated workload is about 400 hours.
Evaluation
The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.
Assessment methods and criteria
Written home examination. Duration: 1 week.
