Course contents

The bachelor’s thesis is a major individual work on a subject of the student’s own choice — 8000-13000 words (not including the list of sources and attachments). The thesis can be empirical, a literary study or development work. The students will focus on a theme which is relevant for at least one of the courses in the bachelor’s programme. The theme and problem must be approved by the supervisor.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course the student shall be able to:

  • Formulate a relevant pedagogical problem

  • Develop a project design which presents the problem, relevant methodology and plan for collecting data if required

  • Plan, implement and document an individual, scientific thesis

  • Apply relevant theories and research methods related to the problem

  • Be familiar with and present the existing knowledge in the field

  • Process, analyse and present data and/or theory

  • Critically evaluate the use of sources

  • Reflect upon ethical scientific dilemmas

  • Assess the scope and limitations of his/her own scientific contribution

  • Master academic requirements with regards to the presentation, structure and design of a report

  • Convey results to a broader audience

Examination requirements

  • A written presentation of the thesis is to be made available digitally

  • An oral presentation of the thesis for supervision at a group seminar

  • At least two meetings and a group seminar for supervision

Individual supervision and supervision in group seminars

The workload is estimated at approximately 400 hours.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.
