Course contents

During this course, the students shall collaborate on a project work related to educational professional development in organisations within the public, private or non-profit sector.

The aim of educational professional development is to contribute to change or innovation within the fields of learning, teaching or competence training. The work will have a distinct didactical approach. The project work shall result in a report. The report shall include both methodical consideration and relevant scientific knowledge. Particular emphasis will be placed on the students’ ability to critical thinking and evaluation related to the work. The development work may have the students’ own experiences as a starting point, but may also, if possible, be carried out in collaboration with an ongoing educational professional development work at UiA.

Examination requirements

Participation at co-writing a group project related to educational professional development. To finalize the project work (part of the final examination), all work tasks must be completed and assessed as a pass. The work tasks include choosing a topic, making a progress schedule, choosing relevant literature, and written and oral presentation of status reports for the development work. Further information will be given in the semester plan to be published on Canvas when the semester starts.

Teaching methods

The course is based on collaboration in groups. Participation and attendance at seminars and lectures are requisite. The teaching will focus on themes like educational professional development, competence development in organisations, action research, methods for collecting empirical data, assessment and report writing.

The seminars prepare for experience sharing, discussions and reflections based on subject related literature. Tuition will be given in connection with the groups’ development work.

The workload is estimated at 400 hours.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

A project report written in groups counts 60% towards the final result.

An individual written reflection note counts 40% towards the final result.
