Course contents

The course aims at counselling groups. Topics are theories, themes and problems as well as R&D work within the subject area. Groups and group processes, roles and relations, as well as group and colleague counseling will be discussed. The course includes planning, implementing and assessment of group counseling. Students are taught to apply relevant counselling models and methods, to discuss and assess ethical dilemmas and challenges, and to develop individual professional practice. Topics like learning, change, competence development, innovation and innovation processes will be emphasized. Students will also be trained at presenting subject material and contributing to the development of their own and their fellow students professional practice.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the student should be able to

  • plan, carry out and evaluate counselling colleagues and groups

  • describe, assess and apply various models and methods within the field of group counseling

  • discuss and assess ethical dilemma related to group counselling practice in different contexts

  • reflect on their own professional practice, and adjust their practice under supervision

  • discuss the use of group counseling in change and competence development in an organization

  • present basic subject material like theories, problems and solutions both orally and in writing

  • exchange views and experiences with colleagues within the field, and thereby contribute to the development of good practice

  • refer to R&D work within the subject area

Examination requirements

Mandatory course work in the basis group must be completed and passed.

Participation at the practice seminar training individual counseling skills

(Further specification in the semester plan which will be available when the semester starts).

Teaching methods

Plenary meetings, group work and written works. The plenary meetings will include lectures, counseling exercises with real cases and various kinds of group work with presentations.

The workload is estimated to about 400 hous.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.
