Course contents

In this course the students will acquire knowledge about the learning and development of pupils on level 5-10, and skills in planning, conducting and evaluating teaching. The focus will be on how to contribute to create a good learning environment for all pupils. The importance of what the teachers do in order to lead, stimulate, vary, activate and direct learning for all pupils on level 5-10 is central, and it is the main focus for the collaboration with the practice instruction.

The practice placement

Teachers and practical training supervisors prepare tasks relating to the observation of the teacher role, exercise of classroom management and didactic thinking.

Practice experiences are summed up in reflection groups on campus during the practice period. After the practice period, the students give presentations related to their practice, discussing observation, classroom management and planning.

Skills

The students

  • Know how to plan and implement systematic observation and analyse data from the observation

  • Are able to collaborate with colleagues when planning, conducting and evaluating teaching and learning

  • Are able to apply didactic terminology and give reasons for his or her didactic choices of theories about learning and teaching

  • Are able to give reasons for, present and use documents about human rights and children¿s rights when teaching

  • Be able to reflect on and apply research based knowledge in order to exercise good classroom management and develop a secure and including learning environment for the pupils

  • Be able to conduct learning processes in a technologically well-equipped learning environment

General competences

The students

  • Are able to plan, implement and evaluate teaching for pupils based on existing framework factors and the current national curriculum

Teaching methods

Lectures and seminars. Individual work and practical exercises in seminars.
70% compulsory attendance requirement. Working with the development of the pupils¿ digital competence is central.

The workload is estimated to about 400 hours.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.
