30 sp education (f.ex. PED144/Ped 146) in Teacher Education Study Programme (BLU/GLU) or the equivalent.

Course contents

The inclusion principle is central to modern-day school and daycare centre, providing a framework for the course's overall content. The course provides teaching and learning theory for working with children and young people with special needs at the daycare centre and school levels. Introduction to practical relevant tasks central to this type of work are included in the course, for example procedures for completing a professional evaluation, working with individualized teaching and plans and mapping children's needs and development. Additionally, the course will discuss important aspects of the professional's role in interdisciplinary work and cooperation with the home.

Learning outcomes

Onn successful completion of the course the students should:

- identify disturbing aspects of various types of difficulties experienced by children in daycare centres and school

- display knowledge of research-based approaches regarding special education

- have knowledge of adapted teaching that can prevent the need for special education

- have knowledge about professional evaluation

- be able to write an individualised teaching plan (IOP)

- have knowledge about relevant partners for school and daycare centre with regard to children with special needs.

 

Teaching methods

Lectures, seminars, group work and individual work with advisement.
Two weeks of practice in school/daycare centre.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

Individual oral examination. Graded assessment.
