The course will give the students a basic introduction to the pedagogical disciplines: philosophy, the history of ideas, psychology and sociology. The students will be introduced to important persons who in various ways have discussed the relation between individual and society. The topics ethics and pedagogical foundation thought throws light upon the relation between perspectives on humanity, science and pedagogical practice. Students will be introduced to pedagogy as a scientific subject related to theory and practice related problems. Pedagogy, special needs, socialization and formation are essential parts of the course. Students will acquire knowledge about different fields of application for pedagogy in today¿s society in relation to work comprising teaching, supervision and pedagogical R&D work.

On successful completion of the course the students should:

Mandatory work must be completed and passed. (Further information in the semester plan).
Teaching methods
Instruction is a combination of lectures, seminars, student groups and individual work. Students will gain experience presenting material and will over the course of the semester, give oral presentations and complete compulsory assignments. (Further information will be given in the semester plan which is available when the semester starts).
The workload is estimated to about 400 hours.
Evaluation
The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.
Assessment methods and criteria
6-hour individual written examination. Graded assessment.
