Prerequisites

At least 40 ECTS credits from the first year. Refer to criteria for selection of students for the internship in the description of the study programme.

Course contents

This course is a continuation of OF-211 with a second semester in a translation company. The internship is intended to give further competence in working in a translation agency The practice period comprises various aspects of the operations in a translation agency, with respect to both translating and other types of work undertaken in the agency.

Learning outcomes

After completion of the course, students should

  • have acquired deeper insight into the activities in a translation agency

  • have acquired thorough knowledge of techniques and methods within translation and project management

  • be fully experienced in independently meeting deadline, working in teams, prioritizing and working under pressure

  • have developed their English language skills

  • have further developed their foreign language skills and translation strategies

Examination requirements

A report should be submitted from the company confirming that students have fulfilled at least 80% of the attendance requirement.

Teaching methods

Practical work under guidance of the host company and a coordinator at the University of Agder. Workload: approximately 810 hours.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria

Students conclude their internship by submitting 3 anonymous translation of 4-500 words each, accompanied by source texts, within various subject areas. Each translation should also be accompanied by a reflective text of approximately 600 words. Assessed with a pass/fail grade.
