Course contents

Specialization in Nordic linguistics. The theme varies from one year to another, but the basis will be recent scientific research and be related to the research activity in the academic environment. A more detailed description of the contents will be available before the semester starts.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

  • Have advanced knowledge about the thematic field, including scientific theory and method

  • Be able to use the knowledge independently on new fields within the thematic field and in other scientific contexts

  • Have the ability to work independently with theories, methods and interpretations within the thematic field, both practically and theoretically

  • Be able to assess and criticize information sources, theories, methods and interpretations within the thematic field

  • Be able to use his/her knowledge and skills when meeting relevant scientific challenges and change processes in society

  • Be able to communicate scientific problems, analyses and conclusions within the thematic field, both to specialists and people in general

Examination requirements

The practice or an alternative task must be completed and passed. This will be specified at the start of the semester.

Teaching methods

Lectures and seminars. The students will participate actively in discussions and analyses. Two weeks of practice are included. The students will work with language. If this is not possible, the practice may be replaced by other tasks in agreement with the teacher. The workload is estimated at 400 hours.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral examination. Graded assessment.
