NorwegianPrerequisites
Norwegian 2, or 60 credits in Norwegian from Teachers education, or 45 ECTS credits in Nordic language and literature, or LFT102 and LFT104.
Course contents
The course provides an introduction to different types of literary theory as well as training in applying them in text analysis. There is a distinction between text-oriented, context-oriented and reader-oriented theories. These are used to make visible and assess different aspects of literature, for example literary structure, political tendency or conventions of interpretation. Students will work on Nordic, especially Norwegian, literature from different epochs and in different forms, including multimodal writings. They will also have training in assessing which theories may be useful when reading different types of texts.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the course, students should have a broad knowledge of important theories of literature, both text-oriented theories (about literary structure), context-oriented theories (about literature and society) and reader-oriented theories (about literature and reader). The should be able to use the theories in analytic questions and apply them when reading texts. They should also be able to analyze multimodal texts where literary expressions interact with images and/or sound.
Examination requirements
An approved oral presentation, or equivalent assignment. More informasjon is given at the beginning of the course.
Teaching methods
Lectures and group work. The workload is estimated to about 400 hours.
Evaluation
The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.
