Course contents

The course is both practical and theoretical. It focuses on how the students can establish themselves as competent musicians in society, at cultural institutions, publicly supported musical events, and at the commercial market; all based on their individual entrepreneurship. The course addresses the performer, artistic practice, the cultural market and politics related to music and its different functions in society. The aim is to provide the students with the necessary skills to develop well-established, fundable projects based on successful collaboration with external partners.

Learning outcomes

The student will:

  • be able to produce musical mediation projects, from funding application to finalised project

  • know central art and music institutions, and possess the ability to collaborate with them

  • be able to create a market and business plan, rooted in their own musical, artistic or mediation related ideas

  • understand music¿s, as well as creative art¿s, role in society

  • understand which markets and demands the practising performer has to relate to

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

The examination delivery consist of a written and multi-media concept description presenting a musical mediation project. The plan should include practical demonstrations or examples from the student¿s activity, but does not have to be a finalised project. The plan must either function as an application for funding, or as a business plan.
