Course contents

The students use scientific methods, work methods and writing techniques. The course will contribute to the students’ understanding of the importance of science to general subject knowledge and different problem solving strategies. Based on a real problem from the field of medical laboratory technology, the students shall learn to seek out information and build their knowledge through practical work. Particular attention will be paid to the practice of scientific methods relevant to the task at hand and learning how scientific results are presented in a written report.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course the students shall

  • be able to account for how a scientific research project is planned and carried out

  • have developed skills in systematic use of methods for data collection, analysis, discussion, report writing and oral presentation

  • be able to substantiate conclusions given in the report

 

Examination requirements

The students' working prosess must be approved and the presentasion must be passed.

Teaching methods

Project instruction in groups.Compulsory presentasion of the project.For the practical part of the project, a personal supervisor will be assigned for each group.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

The Bachelor's project report is assessed by the supervisor and an external examiner.  Oral individual examination. Graded assessment.
