Course contents

The master¿s thesis is an important part of the study programme and constitutes an independent scientific work within the chosen specialization.

The master¿s thesis must be presented as either a) a monograph or b) an article based master¿s thesis in a binding consisting of a publishable manuscript. The assignment may be written in a Scandinavian language or in English.

 

Conditions for handing in the master¿s thesis are that all previous courses must have been passed. A written project plan for the master¿s degree project must be approved before the master¿s thesis is commenced. The project plan must comply with the general guidelines described in the master¿s guidelines.

Learning outcomes

After completing the master¿s thesis the student will:

• be able to show an understanding of central research principles

• be able to formulate relevant topics for his/her own research project based on reviews of literature

• be able to critically evaluate and apply relevant literature as background for a chosen topic

• be able to critically evaluate the choice of research methodological approach

• show an ability to systematic and critical analysis of problems and data material

• be able to apply ethical principles and theories in all parts of the research process

• be able to give a written and oral presentation of a specific topic

• Approved project description

• Compulsory attendance requirements in compulsory seminars and supervision met

• All previous courses in the programme passed

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

The master¿s thesis can be either an individual piece of work or be carried out in groups of up to three students. The examination also contains an individual adjusting oral examination. The student receives a grade on the master¿s thesis. This grade may be adjusted one grade up or down depending on the oral presentation and discussion about thesis.
