Recommended prerequisites

ME-400 Method and Statistics. Furthermore, the courses in the first year of study must normally be passed before one can begin the master's thesis.

Course contents

Administrative arrangements/guidelines have been worked out for various details concerning the duration, scope, working methods, selected syllabus, counselling and deadlines of the master thesis.  

A master's thesis seminar about how to work with a master's thesis will be arranged.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of their master thesis, the student should be able to:

  • ability ro aquire in-depth knowledge about a theoretical field and by means of appropriate scientific methods to analyse empirical phenomena

  • ability to make links between theory and empirical phenomena in research and development projects.

  • in-depth knowledge and skills how a scientific project is planned and conducted, including the legal and ethical issues that should be taken into consideration.

  • ability to give information about results of research and development projects.

Examination requirements

Requirements for taking the exam are approved project outline(skisse) presented at an seminar.

Teaching methods

There is no ordinary teaching. Students will get master thesis guidance as per agreement with supervisor. Participation in seminars. Oral presentations.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria

The master thesis constitutes 100% of the final grade. A-F grades with E as the lowest passing grade. The thesis will be evaluated by the supervisor and an external sensor. The master thesis is sensored within 6 weeks from delivery.
