Course contents

The course will introduce the students to different types of qualitative and quantitative research methods. Emphasis will be on the theoretical foundation of the methods and practical approches in the field of health and sport sciences.

Central themes are:

  • Qualitative and quantitative research design

  • The research process

  • Scientific dissemination

Learning outcomes

Upon succesful completion of the course, students will:

  • demonstrate knowledge about strenghts and weaknesses in different research designs

  • have developed skills in critical assessment of different research designs

  • demonstrate insight into the different parts of the research process

  • demonstrate competence in the dissemination of scientific knowledge

Expected workload in this course is approximately 135 hours.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

A two-hour individual multiple choice exam (school exam). Graded as Pass/Fail.
