Learning outcomes

After completing the course the student should

  • have insight into the relevance of ontology and epistemology for methodological questions

  • master the transition from theory to empirical research

  • be able to assess and apply appropriate qualitative data, methods and methods of analysis, both in the data collection phase and in the data analysis phase

  • understand issues related to methodological triangulation and "mixed methods"

  • be able to work with data at different levels

  • have insight into the debate regarding de-colonialisation of methods

  • have knowledge of the criteria for good research at an international level

  • be updated on research ethics in the research process, including cross-cultural research

Examination requirements

Work requirements must be passed before the exam. Further information will be provided at the start of the semester.

Teaching methods

Teaching methods vary in combining lectures, seminars and group-work. Independent problem-solving is emphasised. Expected workload is about 270 hours.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.
