Course contents

The course includes:

  • Phases of a research process

  • The relationship between theory and data

  • Intensive and extensive research design

  • Research relevant to practice

  • Interview, survey, documents, records

  • Data analysis

  • presenting results

  • Research ethics

Learning outcomes

After completing the course the student:

 

  • has knowledge of different methods for production of knowledge

  • is familiar with different types of data

  • is able to evaluate the benefits and limitations of the methods

  • is able to plan and conduct an empirical study

  • is able to conduct simple analyses of data

  • is able to report the results of a survey

  • have knowledge of practical research in social work

  • be able to critically reflect on the relevance of research results in their own field

Teaching methods

Lectures and seminars . Expected work load is approximately 270 hours.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.
