Recommended prerequisites

A general course of introductory materials science and engineering.

Course contents

Plastic deformation. Materials testing. Plastic forming of metals. The properties of engineering alloys.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the student should be able to

  • master the expected responses of structural materials as they undergo elastic and permanent deformations

  • evaluate and choose the optimum materials for mechatronic products.

Examination requirements

Approved theoretical and laboratory exercises. Information will be given in Canvas at the start of the course.

Evaluation

Course evaluation is carried out as a midterm evaluation in accordance with standard procedure in the quality assurance system, chapter 2.1.1., unless other information is given in the beginning of the semester.

Assessment methods and criteria

5-hour individual written examination. Graded assessment.
