Course contents
Design of industrial IT systems, hardware-in-the-loop verification of PLC (programmable logic controller) and the industrial IT platform of ABB, a methodology for the development of large control systems.
Data integrity, data formats, security, communication protocols, Ethernet, TCP / IP, UDP. Introduction to industrial field buses PROFINET, PROFIBUS, CanBus, Device Net and Interbus-S.
Robot kinematics, robot dynamics, Jacobian, functional programming of an industrial robot
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the course, the student should be able

exlain the challenges in system architecture and programming of major industrial IT systems for process and oil-and-gas industry

define and apply a flowchart and state machines for programming large control systems

perform a lab-based hardware-in-the-loop test of a control system

program a PLC based on IEC61131-3

choose between several alternative fieldbus depending on application

ensure and verify the data communicated

program an industrial robot and implement practical experience in lab

analyze and create a 3D visualization and simulation of an industrial robot system

Assessment methods and criteria
The examination consists of two parts: Practical exercises / lab assignments (40% of final grade). 5-hour written examination (60% of final grade). Graded assessment.
