MAS100, MAS130 and MAS107 or equivalent.

Course contents

Product development methodology, Product development from concept to prototype and product maturation of existing designs, Methods to investigate the customer and market needs, Benchmarking of competitive products and product specification, Concept generation and selection of solution, Product architecture, industrial design and ecodesign, 3D modeling and 3D printing, Practical system design and control and LabView toolbox for LEGO Mindstorms.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the student is expected to

  • have a broad knowledge about the methods in structured product development

  • have a broad knowledge about the process from idea to prototype

  • be able to show insight into the importance of selection of material(s), design, and architecture

  • apply the mathematical, algorithmic and control principles to implement a working prototype through physical construction and software development (applies to project)

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Project report including evaluation of concept novelty (60%), presentation including demonstration of prototype (40%) Graded assessment.

Please note that if the student signs up for ordinary exam the next year, both elements in the portfolio must be carried out anew.
