  • descriptive statistics

  • probability and probability distributions

  • confidence intervals and testing hypothesis

  • linear regression and correlation

  • chi-square test

  • uses of statistics in laboratory work and in fieldwork

 

 

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the student should

  • show basic knowledge in statistics

  • use simple statistical methods

  • use a statistical computerprogram

Teaching methods

Lectures, work in small groups. There will be exercise in a statisticsprogramme. Compulsory assignement. The course has an expected workload of around 266 hours

 

 

 

 

 

 

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

A 5-hour written examination. Graded assessment.
