Course contents

Basic mathematics: Arithmetic, algebra, power and roots. Graphs and functions. Simple trigonometry. Differentiation. Equations, polynoms, introduction to trigonometry. Vectors in plane, space and multidimensional space. Matrices. Quadratic equation. Homogenous coordinates.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student is expected to:

  • have mathematical knowledge to understand and handle geometrical shapes as points, graphs and figures in two or more dimensions

  • be able to solve simple equations and systems of equations

Examination requirements

Satisfactory submission of compulsory exercises and compulsory participation in lessons.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

Written midterm examination, 3 hours (40 % contribution to final mark) and final written examination, 3 hours (60 % contribution to final mark). Graded assessment.
