Course contents

The course comprises several productions that emphasize various aspects and invite to different possibilities within film production. There will be a focus on narrative techniques. During the semester both short and long productions will be made, and different kinds of collaboration will be applied.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course the student shall

  • Have insight into work related to the processing of ideas and planning for film production

  • Have developed skills related to recording, directing, cutting and adaption

  • Have the ability to reflect on narrative techniques, project based work and experiences with group processes

  • Have acquired an adequate vocabulary and terminology to be able to describe film in writing

Examination requirements

  • The compulsory attendance requirement must be met

  • Approved exercises

  • Approved report from excursion or alternative arrangement

  • Approved mid-term film and mid-term report

Teaching methods

The teaching will be in the form of seminars, supervision and workshops. The students will experience the various roles in film production, both working with scripts, directing, camera work and cutting. The course also includes focused workshops with guest lecturers with relevant practical and theoretical experience within film production. There is an 80 % compulsory attendance requirement in workshops and film production. A detailed overview will be published in the semester plan. Parallel to the practical tasks the students will work with reflection and analysis related to his/her own work. This will be developed in a report included in the film production.

A study trip to a national film festival will be arranged during the semester. The students will have to cover all expenses. Alternative activities will be planned for the students who are unable to participate.

The workload is estimated to 400 hours.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

A film production in a group and an individual report are assessed together.

The film production counts 60 % and the report counts 40 %.
