Course contents

The course shall give a framework for understanding how communicative practices are influenced by the social, cultural and technological changes that characterize our time. The focus will be on digitalization and media change, on various forms of publicity and on cultural encounters between groups, professions and mindsets.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students shall

  • Have insight into contemporary and earlier theories about how media operates and its roles in society

  • Have insight into how social media change the conditions for private and professional communication within different areas of society

  • Have knowledge about previous and current theories about publicity

  • Be able to analyze the social and technological framework for relevant forms of strategic communication

Examination requirements

The compulsory attendance requirements in group-based project work must be met. Further information will be posted on Canvas.

Teaching methods

Lectures, seminars and group work. The workload is estimated to about 270 hours.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria

72 hours individual written home examination. Graded assessment.
