Course contents
The cource focuses on theory and methods for conducting text oriented discources analysis; in other words – for analysis of text in action. A broad understanding of the concept of ”text” will be in play, as will a similarly broad approach to different social and medial contexts for the texts to unfold. Examples from different, relevant areas of society will be used in class.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the course, students

are able to analyze the interaction between text and context in specific events of communication

are able to describe the conditions for meaningmaking, among other things the ways in which textual forms are motivated by intention, medium, situation and culture

have insight into the field of multimodality and are familiar with the different theories and methods for multimodal analysis

have insight into different traditions of discource analysis, both those based on social sciences and those based on humanistic disciplines.
Examination requirements
Individual written assignment assessed as a Pass. More information will be given in Canvas.
Teaching methods
The learning environment will include lectures, seminars and group work. The workload is estimated to about 270 hours.
Evaluation
The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.
