Course contents

The course focuses on analyzing oral and visual communication in conversations, a process that includes textual and conversational analysis as well as analysis of both oral and body language. The course provides insight into the relationships between linguistic structures, social processes and various forms of meaning creation.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, students should

- have insight in the terms of communicative interaction face to face and through different media

- be able to make clear the relationship between discourse patterns and social processes on one hand and social relations on the other

- be able to analyze verbal interaction, both written and oral

- have insight in use of body language and other none-verbal signals

- be able to analyze the interaction between verbal and none-verbal communication processes

Examination requirements

A project assignment must be submitted. For further information, see the semester plan.

Teaching methods

Lectures, seminars and group works. The workload is estimated to about 400 hours.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.
