Norwegian.Course contents
Focus will be on theories about media, culture and research, including theories about media from traditional mass media to social media, theories about media organization, media texts, reception research and culture studies will also be included.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the course, students should
- have knowledge about media and communication theories
- have knowledge about how different media create different possibility and frames of communication
- have insight into the relationship between media and media texts on the one hand and between culture and society on the other
- have knowledge about different models of communication within media, culture and society
- be able to account for the media’s role and position in the society
- know about central concepts and analyzing methods in the media research
Examination requirements
Passed a method-based assignment.
Teaching methods
Lectures and seminars. The workload is estimated to about 400 hours.
Evaluation
The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria
A 6-hours individual written examination. Graded assessment.
