Course contents

The course includes the following topics: The structure of proteins and an introduction to methods used in protein chemistry. Cell membrane proteins. ATP production from carbohydrates and fats. Metabolic pathways. Synthesis of macromolecules. Metabolism of amino acids and nucleic acids.

 

 

 

 

 

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the students should have knowledge of

  • basic principles of biochemistry

  • biochemical pathways

  • biochemical reactions involved in the synthesis of macromolecules

 

Examination requirements

All compulsory exercises must be approved before the students are allowed to take the final exam.

 

Teaching methods

Lectures, compulsory theoretical and practical exercises.

 The course has an expected scope of work of 270 hours. 

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

Written individual examination, 4 hours. Graded assessment.
