Recommended prerequisites

It is recommended that the students have completed 60 ECTS in arts and crafts.

Course contents

The arts and crafts subject is in this course directed toward giving competence in order to work with contemporary forms of expression, such as in Land Art and other site-related art. Digital images are used actively in site-related work and as an independent form of artistic expression. Mediation and didactic reflection are an integrated part of the course.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will:

  • be aware of the issues and forms of expression in contemporary art connected to site-specific art

  • be familiar with various types of site-related art

  • be able to describe a place's distinguishing characteristics, and be able to apply the characteristics to site-specific creative work

  • have developed their perceptive abilities, their aesthetic awareness and imaginative abilities through creative work based in different environments

  • be able to employ fundamental principles in digital photography and image processing

  • be familiar with and be able to use various approaches to digital imagery in creative work

  • be able to make academic reflections and assessments of their own work as well as the creative work of others, and be able to communicate this to others

  • know how one can make use of site-related issues and digital images in work with children and adolescents

Examination requirements

In order to take the examination, the student must:

  • have all mandatory assignments approved. Exactly which assignments are mandatory will be specified in the descriptions given at the start of each workshop period.

  • have mandatory attendance approved

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

A practical exam which will also contain a written part where the student reflects on a given academic aspect of the task. (The practical exhibition counts 60% and the written 40%)
In addition, a presentation of selected work from the semester will be exhibited. Which work is to be exhibited will be deemed by the instructor with at least two weeks' notice before the exhibition (this may be used to adjust the grade awarded on the practical examination). Graded assessment.
