The course will provide theoretical and practical exercises as regards one of the following categories of Enterprise Systems (ES): Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Knowledge Management Systems (KMS), Customer Relationship Management (CRM) or Data Warehousing. The selection of ES category may vary according to available enterprise system applications and educational resources at the faculty.
The course focuses on:
Enterprise systems architecture, implementation strategies, customization issues, software and vendor selection, post-implementation issues, business process reengineering (BPR), organizational change and change management.
The course applies relevant case studies and research articles to highlight how and why organizations may obtain success and transformation by implementing these systems and how organizations can handle technical and organizational challenges during the whole life cycle of these systems
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student has achieved

deep theoretical insight and knowledge about one category of Enterprise Systems (e.g. the Enterprise Resource Planning System)

practical skills in terms of hands-on experiences related to use and configuration of this category of systems.
The student should be able to:

Discuss central concepts, theories, life cycle models as regards the Enterprise System in question

Reflect upon technological and organizational implementation challenges, motivation and benefits while implementing this kind of Enterprise System

Do an analysis in a particular organization to map potential requirements of an Enterprise System and provide professional advises and recommendations based upon this requirement analysis

Install a software package with similarities as the one focused in the course and advice the organization during the implementation project to avoid well-known pitfalls.
Teaching methods
Seminars and laboratory exercises. Most of the organized teaching is mandatory; more detailed information will be given at start of term. Expected workload for 10 ECTS is 13 hours per week.
Assessment methods and criteria
Written assignments and reports that count 60%, and individual written exam that counts 40%. Graded marks.
