Recommended prerequisites

Students must have completed 90 ECTS to complete the course including at least one 200 subject from UiA, for example IS-200.

Course contents

The course covers digitalisation work in an organizational or business context where students will learn about organizing IT departments, drivers for change, change management, implementation and use of information systems in organizations. The topic will also discuss ethical issues for players in digitization processes

Students will write a project report where they analyze ongoing work. Students are responsible for identifying an IT-related topic in an organizational context that they can study.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course the students should:

  • Know the tasks and understand the role and responsibility of the IT unit

  • Understand the role of IS as a tool for process improvement and digital business operations

  • Understand the opportunities and challenges digitalization poses for sustainability

  • Understand the challenges of system development, implementation and utilization of information systems (IS) in organizations

  • Understand how essential elements of system development processes, business processes, organizational development and digitization processes challenge each other.

Approved mandatory assignments. Further information is provided in Canvas at the start of the semester.

Teaching methods

The teaching is organized as lectures, guest lectures and group work with cases and examples, and group project with professional guidance. Students are expected to read through relevant material in advance and engage actively during the lectures.

Estimated work scope is 270 hours

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Portifolio hand-in in groups. Individual grade is given. Graded, A-F.
