  • Design and management of industrial value chains

  • Purchasing processes and decision-making structures for selecting business partners

  • Contract models, risk allocation and business concepts for supplier cooperation

  • Theoretical perspectives on governance issues and incentives in buyer supplier relationships: Control vs trust

  • Development of purchasing strategies and portfolio management

  • Innovation and co-creation with suppliers

  • Modularization, digitalization and integration in industrial value chains

  • Corporate social responsibility and sustainability in industrial purchasing

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the student will know how to:

  • Analyze and develop processes and decision-making structures for industrial purchasing and supply chain management

  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of central theories on contract models, risk allocation, governance issues and incentives for supplier cooperation

  • Describe how businesses can facilitate innovation and co-creation with suppliers

  • Develop strategies for portfolio management of products and suppliers

  • Describe characteristics of modularization, digitalization and integration in value chains

  • Analyze and reflect on ethical and sustainability issues related to industrial supply and purchasing

Examination requirements

Satisfactory submission of mandatory exercises. The portfolio must be assessed to a Pass in order to take the written examination. Requirements will be given at the semester start.

Teaching methods

Lectures, guest lectures, reading material including lecture presentations, group exercises and project assignment work. Workload for this course is estimated to be about 200 hours. It requires continuous work throughout the semester.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

Written group assignment counting 100% av the final grade. The group as a whole is graded. Grading by letters.
