Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • Apply and critically reflect on lean principles and philosophy

  • Identify and assess value for internal and external stakeholders

  • Compare and analyse serial- and project-based production in the context of lean thinking

  • Apply visual management techniques and relate it to the principles of lean thinking

  • Identify and interpret process variation

  • Apply process mapping techniques and identify areas of improvement

  • Critically reflect on lean thinking in the context of digitalization and the UN’s sustainable development goals (12)

  • Analyse and critically assess production systems in the context of continuous improvement

  • Ability to work in teams collaboratively to learn and find solutions

  • Be able to understand individual and organisational learning as reflective processes

Examination requirements

Project work in group. 100% of total assessment. Graded assessment.

Teaching methods

Lectures, videos, discussions, presentations and group work. Workload is estimated to be comprised of approximately 200 hours.

Evaluation

The Head of study programme, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

Group assignment counts 50% of the total grade. Individual written assignment counts 50% of the total grade.
