Course contents

The contents of this course comprise physical- and biological-, social- and psychological aspects of performance development in sport and phycical activity. The individuals' development and performance are in this study programme looked at as an integrated process in which it seems needed to include knowledge of both biological-, physiological-, social- and psychological phenomena. The students will gain knowledge about how the individual and the team develop and perform in sport and physical activity, as well as how training is organised in order to reach one's goals.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the student will:

  • have acquired and be able to make use of advanced knowledge related to central physical- and biological-, social- and psychological aspects of performance development in sports and physical activity

  • be able to understand and critically analyse theories and central empirical phenomena which are decisive for people´s capacity in different kinds of movement activities

  • be able to analyse research questions and critically evaluate scientific work

  • be able to disseminate scientific knowledge and communicate about research questions, analyses, and conclusions within the field of performance development in sports and physical activity

  • be able to link classical research studies and the discussion of new hypoteses in order to find a principal field for independent research

Examination requirements

Compulsory group assignments:

Group-based course requirements (assignments) related to each topic (two-three students per group).

Assessed as approved/not approved. Please see guidelines.

Mid-term assignment:

Individual assignment (essay) in relevant curriculum topic, max. five pages (excl. references) written in New times roman, font size 12, line spacing 1,5.
Assessed as approved/not approved.

Teaching methods

Work methods are lectures, study groups and self study.

Estimated work load is 810 hours (27 hours per credit).

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

An individual 14-day home examination. The assignment should not exceed the maximum of 5000 words (line spacing 1,5), the references excluded. Please note that a plagiarism control will be performed.
Adjusting oral examination related to the syllabus.

Graded assessment.
