The course is composed of two parts: 1) European and Norwegian history (circa 800-1500) is taught, and 2) European history (circa 1500- 1750) and Norwegian history (up to 1814) is taught. Both parts focus on the political, economic, cultural and social developmental processes found in these countries. Major topics include interaction and conflict between various social powers, the growth of and changes in governance and institutions as well as population and economic development.
Learning outcomes
Upon course completion students will

have a broad overview of basic developmental features of the political, economic, cultural and social arena in Europe from 800-1750 and in Norway up to 1814

be able to account for given topics and discuss central problem areas, cf. «Content»

be able to disseminate their knowledge to others through creating well-written presentations
Examination requirements
For students in the teacher education: The practice period must be completed and passed.
All other students: A preliminary test must be passed.

Teaching methods
Lectures and seminars. The workload is estimated to 270 hours.
Evaluation
