  • central epidemiological studies that shed light on the hypothesis

  • intervention studies that manipulate physical activity and measure changes in risk factors and/or physical capacity

  • key studies that address the significance of physical activity in relation to the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of specific illnesses

  • methodological challenges connected to the quantification of physical activity, physical function and health

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the candidate:

  • will have thorough knowledge of the epidemiological data foundation that establishes the relationship between physical capacity, physical activity and important health-related variables

  • is able to formulate hypotheses in relation to the significance of the activity's form, frequency and intensity (dose-response relation) for physical capacity and health-related physiological changes

  • can critically evaluate research that sheds light on how aging and gender affect physical function

  • is able to discuss and debate important methodological challenges connected to the quantification of physical function, physical activity and health at the population, group and individual level

Examination requirements

Participation in compulsory lectures as stated in the course pamphlet.

 

Assessment methods and criteria

The student will receive a topic that will be presented in the form of a 45 minute lecture with a written summary. The test lecture and summary will be assessed as pass/fail.
