Mankind is today and will in the near future, be facing technological development unprecedented in history. How should we relate to this new development? To what degree can and should we humans take control over nature and our own development? Will technology take control over us humans?
In this course we will apply philosophical research and method to better understand man's situation in relation to current technological development. The course will address and discuss ethical and philosophical problems related to artificial intelligence, artificial life, transhumanism, and ethical aspects related to current technological development.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course the student shall

Have obtained thorough knowledge about and a philosophical understanding of the most central problems concerning man¿s relationship to technology

Be able to discuss and analyze various solutions to the most central problems concerning man's relationship to technology

Be able to convey and further develop problems and various solutions independently
Examination requirements
A preliminary test must be assessed as a pass. Further information will be given on semester start.
Teaching methods
Seminars. The workload is estimated to approximately 400 hours.
Evaluation
The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.
