Course contents
The human mind is studied in both psychology and philosophy. In this course we look at various topics in the intersection of psychology and philosophy. Central questions are: What is consciousness? What are emotions? What is the will? What is intelligence? How should we study these phenomena? What can psychology and philosophy learn from each other? What are the central philosophical presuppositions of psychological research?
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the students shall

- have knowledge of similarities and differences between philosophical and psychological methods
Skills
be able to philosophically reflect on the structures of the human mind
- be able to evaluate basic psychological research from a philosophical point of view
General competence
¿ be able to communicate and reflect on the structures of the human mind, as studied in the intersection of psychology and philosophy
Examination requirements
This course has one mandatory midterm exam, which the student has to pass before he/she can take the final exam.
Teaching methods
Lectures and student based study groups. If there are non-Norwegian speaking students present, the lectures will be given in English. Expected workload is approximately 270 hours.
Evaluation
The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.
