Recommended prerequisites

The course presupposes that students have acquired basic ethical knowledge from having completed either a professional course of study or Examen philosoficum/Examen facultatum (With regard to students enrolled in the Master's degree programme in Religion, it is required that they have ethical knowledge equivalent to that taught in KR-104. Should a student be lacking these prerequisites, the course instructor may assign a reading list for this student in order to make up for this deficiency.)

 

 

 

Course contents

The course focuses on general ethics in connection with topics concerning welfare and social change, and will furthermore discuss basic ethical questions relating to professions and ethics. The course will thus discuss professional development with thought to their value-based foundation, their autonomy and authority and their relationship to society. The function of ethics will be discussed – partly as an analytical tool for professional actors, partly for recipients and for professional development.

- The normative basis of professional ethics

- Different perspectives on professions and the function of professional ethics in society

- Warning responsibility

- The relationship between profession and professional ethics

- Professional ethics as silent knowledge in profession/professional understanding

- Professional ethics expressed in ethical codex

 

- The relationship between professional ethics and economy

- The relationship between professional ethics and jurisprudence

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will have:

- knowledge of central professional ethical questions

- the ability to identify and analyse ethical challenges expressed in their professional practice

- the ability to use their knowledge for reflection in their own professional practice.


 

Teaching methods

 Instruction will normally include lectures and dialogues, including student-based presentations.The workload is estimated to 270 hours.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.
