Course contents

  • Metabolic regulation

  • Digestion, metabolism and function of macronutrients

  • The biological and regulatory functions of micronutrients

  • Diet and bone health

  • The importance of good nutritional status in different phases of life

  • Nutrition and (patho) physiological processes related to obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer

Learning outcomes

  • have knowledge of mechanisms for metabolic regulation

  • have detailed knowledge of the digestion, metabolism and biological functions of the macronutrients in the body

  • have knowledge of the biological and regulatory functions of selected micro-nutrients

  • have knowledge of the biological importance of good nutritional status in different phases of life (the first 1000 days, adolescence and old age)

  • have knowledge of the connection between diet and bone health

  • have knowledge about how nutrients, foods and diet can affect (patho) physiological processes related to the most common lifestyle diseases

Examination requirements

Satisfactory participation in compulsory teaching and successful completion of work requirements according to the semester plan

Teaching methods

Lectures, group work and practice in presenting for fellow students. Parts of the teaching are compulsory. Further information will be given in the semester plan.

The student workload is estimated to approx. 270 hours.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.
