Course contents
Introduction to heat supply based on different fuels for example electricity, oil, gas and biomass. In addition, solar thermal collectors, boiler and stoking technics, combustion with stoichiometry, spot heating, central heating and heat stations with associated piping and heat emitters are reviewed.
Calculation and simulation of buildings' heating and cooling demand. Regulations and standards (TEK and NS).
Planning and construction of energy-efficient dwellings and commercial buildings. Low energy-building and passive house. Passive energy solutions. Energy-efficient heating systems, appliances and lighting.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should

be able to evaluate and calculate energy prices for different types of fuel

be able to plan and dimensioning heat demand and units for heat supply

have insight knowledge about which factors affect the buildings' energy consumption and related relevant regulations and standards (TEK and NS)

be able to design and evaluate energy-efficient buildings

be able to use the most common simulation tools to calculate and verify the energy consumption in buildings, and be able to assess the consequences of different choice of solutions
Examination requirements
The student must have passed compulsory exercises to be able to take the exam. Overview of compulsory assignments is given in Canvas at the start of the semester.
Teaching methods
Lectures and exercises / lab.
The course uses up-to-date digital tools in connection with calculations and simulations.
The scope of work for the average student is calculated at 27 hours per credit.
Evaluation
The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.
