Course contents

Introduction to the principlesof heating, refrigeration and air conditioning plants. Dimensioning of heat exchangers, piping and ductwork, pumps, compressors,fans, heat pumps and refrigeration machinery.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the students

  • have a broad knowledge of the factors that affect indoor air quality

  • have a broad knowledge of the design of heat exchangers, pipes and ductwork, pumps and fans

  • have a broad knowledge of the design of heat pumps, refrigeration and air conditioning

  • are able to explain the main principles of heat pumps and refrigeration machinery

  • can explain the structure of heating and cooling systems

  • are able to demonstrate understanding of the factors that affect the efficiency of heating and refrigeration machinery

Examination requirements

Students must successfully complete the compulsory assignment(s) in order to take the examination.

Teaching methods

Lectures, exercises and laboratory work.

Evaluation

The course evaluation is completed as a midterm evaluation in accordance with the provisions listed in the Quality Assurance System Chapter 2.1.1. A final evaluation may be completed as required.

Assessment methods and criteria

4-hour written individual examination. Graded assessment.
