EN-410 and EN-411 must be successfully passed.
Course contents
The course focusses on the teaching of English as a foreign language in Norwegian schools. The students will get insight into contrasts between Norwegian and English that often create problems to pupils who are learning English. Particular emphasis will be put on learning and teaching strategies in accordance with current curriculum plans for primary education. Challenges pertaining to the teaching of English in a multicultural and multilingual school will also be reflected in the course.

Knowledge: Upon completion of the course the student has acquired

specific knowledge about the most important contrasts between Norwegian and English and their importance in foreign language teaching and learning

in-depth knowledge about theories on language acquisition, including those that have been particularly influential to foreign language teaching in Norwegian schools

Examination requirements
The following requirements must be met: one obligatory essay and one oral presentation must be assessed as a pass. Attendance requirement: 80% compulsory attendance.
Teaching methods
Lectures and group work. Continuous and active participation. Attendance of 80% required to sit for the exam in the course. The workload is estimated to 200 hours.
Evaluation
The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.
Assessment methods and criteria
A one-week home exam. Graded assessment.
