Prerequisites

60 credits in a relevant subject such as: theatre, music, arts and crafts, media and communication.

Course contents

In scenography, the focus will be the stage viewed in a historical context, construction of stage models, budgeting for set and design, as well as costume, make-up, and props as a part of the visual entirety.

 In lighting and sound, the focus will be on basic techniques, HSE, production planning, and light and sound as artistic means.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student will:

  • have basic knowledge about light and lighting design

  • have basic knowledge about scenography

  • have basic knowledge about stage rigging and HSE (Health, Environment and Safety) on stage and in audience areas

  • have knowledge about different organization forms in the theatre

  • be able to solve basic assignments in lighting design and to develop a lighting plan

  • have knowledge about important principles needed to create stage design solutions, and be capable of transforming an idea into a stage model

  • be able to apply terminology concerning stage solutions and technique in discussions about technical and artistic choices

  • be able to perform stage-manager assignments, such as production plans and rehearsal plans.

  • be able to define, apply and reshape the stage

  • be able to analyze an atmosphere/situation and suggest stage design solutions

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.
