Course contents
- Material science for road design.
- Geotechnical investigations and calculations.
- Legal and formal basis for road planning, road building and terrain management.
- Design of roads according to the regulations of the Norwegian road network
- Digital modeling of roads in the terrain.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student is expected to:
· Be able to explain and communicate technical environmental and economic consequences of road design.
· Be able to analyze simple problems related to soil condition and foundation.
· Be able to design roads and related facilities in accordance with applicable regulations.
· Be able to develop digital models of alternative route selections and road designs.
Be able to communicate content, pros and cons of the selected designs.
Examination requirements
Individual written examination, 4 hours (60 % contribution of final assessment), and project work (40 % contribution to final assessment). Graded assessment.
Teaching methods
Lectures and laboratory exercises/projects.
Estimated work load for the average student is 27 hours per credit.
Evaluation
