Course contents

  • Architecture Theory and History.

  • Design and engineering theory.

  • Analysis of existing buildings, with emphasis on system understanding.

  • Wooden Buildings sustainability, structure and detailing.

  • Concept work.

  • Analysis, programming and design.

  • Practical detailing based on pre-accepted solutions.

  • Preparation of visualization media, digital and physical.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student is expected to:

· Be able to explain and communicate the content of the main references of the 20th century architecture and the most renowned historical styles.

· Be able to explain and communicate architectural tactics for achieving aesthetic and symbolic qualities.

· Be able to analyze and communicate comprehensive understanding of existing buildings.

· Be able to plan detailed solutions for smaller buildings, with emphasis on the use of wood as a building material.

· Be able to build physical and digital models og own design

· Be able to communicate content, pros and cons of the design with an architect's vocabulary.

Teaching methods

Lectures, exercises and laboratory exercises.

Estimated work load for the average student is 27 hours per credit.

Assessment methods and criteria

Individual written digital home exam, 3 hours (30 % contribution of final assessment), and portfolio with project work (70 % contribution to final assessment). Graded assessment. Information on portfolio aquirements will be given in Canvas at the start of the semester.
